Research Summary

I am interested in testing base editors in Lactuca sativa varieties to observe how they can be applied in improving resilience in lettuce, specifically in relation to herbicide and freezing tolerance. I am also trying to optimize prime editing technology in order to eventually introduce disease resistance in susceptible cultivars. Finally, to incorporate beneficial genes from wild type relatives, I plant to knock out a set of domestication genes in order to develop an advanced breeding line for the lettuce industry.
