Research Topic

Genetic basis of salt tolerance in lettuce.

Research Summary

Soil salinization, which decreases yields, has impacted more than half of California's farmlands and will continue to rise with increasing temperatures and limited water supply. This includes the Salinas Valley, which accounts for over 70% of lettuce production in the US. Therefore, I am investigating the genetic basis of salt tolerance in wild Lactuca species to identify candidate genes that confer salinity tolerance for breeding applications.
