Functional annotation of the lettuce genome

Research Summary

By utilizing genes previously categorized in the model species, Arabidopsis, I am performing targeted knockouts using CRISPR/Cas9 of the homologous genes in lettuce to elucidate function. In particular, I am focusing on genes that may display a beneficial mutant phenotype, such as an increase in nitrogen uptake efficiency, among other desirable characteristics.
