Research Topic Genetic variability of resistance in lettuce to the vascular wilt pathogen, Verticillium dahliae.
Research Summary V. dahliae is an important vascular pathogen of lettuce and is of increasing importance in California. Through a V. dahliae resistance screen of lettuce we intend to show varying degrees of resistance and/or tolerance to V. dahliae. Quantitative PCR methods will be employed to quantify differing levels of resistance. After establishing and quantifying the levels of resistance in lettuce species the genetic factors contributing to the observed resistance will be identified and investigated.
