Internship in Molecular Biology of Plant-Microbe Interactions

An internship is available in the Michelmore lab for a highly motivated undergraduate student in the Biological Sciences. The student will work on a project to characterize pathogenicity related genes in the lettuce-downy mildew pathosystem.

Techniques involved in the project:
-DNA and RNA isolation
-PCR and RT-PCR
-Molecular cloning
-Bacterial culturing and transformation of E. coli and Agrobacterium
-Transient expression of proteins in plants

Required qualifications:
-Completion of Intro Biology and Chemistry labs or other prior lab experience
-Understanding of recombinant DNA technology and basic genetics

Please submit a resume, transcript, and cover letter through Aggie Job Link. Please direct any questions to Kelsey Wood(klsywd@ucdavis.edu)

Internship in Bioinformatics and Genomics of Plant-Microbe Interactions

Techniques involved in the project:
-Bioinformatic identification of genes
-Comparative genomic analysisR
-BLAST, global sequence alignment, phylogeny building
-Bacterial culturing and transformation of E. coli and Agrobacterium
-SNP discovery and population genetics

Required qualifications:
-Coursework in Bioinformatics and/or programming
-Proficiency in using Unix and the terminal
-Familiarity with a programming language such as Perl or Python
-Understanding of basic concepts in genetics and genomics

Please submit a resume, transcript, and cover letter through Aggie Job Link. Please direct any questions to Kelsey Wood(klsywd@ucdavis.edu)

Internship in Biochemistry of Plant-Microbe Interactions
